Street Car Named Desire – National Theatre Live

Three hours and twenty minutes of pure delight.

I feel privileged that we are able to watch these excellent British theatre productions in Australian screens thanks to National Theatre Live.

The Tennessee Williams play is about a woman moving in with her sister after losing everything and trying to survive the scrutiny of her sister’s partner.

This Young Vic production and stage arrangement is very different to the traditional performance of this well-known play. The revolving stage seems like an active character in this play.

Gillian Anderson of X-files fame, gives an amazing performance as Blanche DuBois the woman who’s life is falling apart. Gillian certainly deserves the five star reviews that have been given by the theatre critics. Her performance reminds me of the Cate Blanchet’s Oscar nominated performance in “Blue Jasmin”.

Ben Foster as Stanley Kowaiski and Vanessa Kirby as Stella Kowaiski delivers an equally powerful performance.

If you are a fan of theatre and this is movie that you should not miss.
